fun fact: basically every mod on r/legaladvice is a cop. if you see a bunch of comments in a row that have been deleted for “offering bad advice”, you can replace “reddit” in the url with “ceddit” to see the same page with all the deleted comments still there, and roughly half the time the “"bad advice”“ is literally anything that suggests that maybe OP shouldn’t trust the cops
in this thread, the OP talks about how a local cop in their small town in Ohio is stalking him and, in particular, his fiancée, to the point that they’re afraid to leave their home.
A lot of the deleted comments are recommending cameras on the house and the cars

a lot more of them are recommending OP file a complaint, and refuse to leave until he gets the forms he needs
and a few are discussing the way small-town cops work with little to no oversight, and that it might be good to talk to someone higher up the chain.

none of these comments needed to be deleted. none of these comments are harmful or malicious in anyway. All of these comments are helping OP learn and exercise his rights as a citizen, and all of them were deleted. What all the comments have in common is that it would cause the cop to face any kind of consequences for behavior that, were a civilian doing it, would be illegal.
hey i said this in a group chat earlier and honestly it fucks, so i’m gonna post it here too
Feel disgusted by something? Don’t immediately act on it. Deconstruct your disgust!
Be just a little curious about it. Why do you feel disgusted by something? What is it about the thing that disgusts you? Is it the whole that disgusts you, or just a part? Do you feel disgusted because you’re supposed to? Has someone told you to feel disgusted? Are you just disgusted because something looks unfamiliar to you? Do other people seem disgusted or are there people opposing your disgust (or do they, on the flipside, like it?). Is there a cultural context you might be missing? More importantly, could there be biases like racism, sexism, classism, homo- or trans-phobia at play? Is the object of your digust actually causing harm? Does someone benefit from your disgust politically?
Disgust is a powerful emotion, but one that deserves a lot of self-reflection. It’s easily weaponised and often deeply flawed.
…is this supposed to apply to finding wet moldy produce in the back of the fridge, because I don’t see how, and if it isn’t supposed to apply to that, how are users supposed to tell when to use it?
Mould is an excellent place to go to talk about the application of interrogated disgust. There are a lot of cases were foods are intentionally laced with mould for the flavour it produces. We control rot and mould in a lot of ways in food - kimchi, stilton, sour cream, they’re all produced by allowing things to rot in specific ways. And some ways are more blatently obvious than others! You can look at stilton and see the green penicillin moulds used to create it, whilst you might look at bread and go ‘this isn’t going off’ - but yeasts are creating alcohol and CO2 inside the bread, which is a sort of spoilage.
In relation to food in the back of the fridge, absolutely throw it out. You’re not harming anyone by not wanting to eat food you know is past its best. But there are cultures who ferment foods in ways we might immediately balk at because your brain connects the mould in your fridge and the sensible ‘probably not good to eat’ warning with something harmless, and that’s the danger of disgust.
You might genuinely find them disgusting. Icelanders can do what they want, nothing about kæstur hákarl (fermented greenland shark)* appeals to me and I think I’m fine in saying I’m disgusted by it. All theirs.
But, you can see how this could be weaponised, yeah? There are plenty of cultures and peoples where ‘they’re disgusting, vermin-like’ were used as legitimate reasons to oppress and destroy. In that case, their food - harmless and controlled as the spoilage might be - might be used as evidence to prove their point UNLESS you interrogate your initial gut reaction to their fermented foods.
Back to our questions - Does the person telling you about the fermented foods have an agenda? Yes, they do, bigotry. Is your unfamiliarity playing in? Yeah, you’ve never actually tasted the food, you don’t know what it’s like. Is there cultural context you’re missing? Might be! Again, in the case of kæstur hákarl, Iceland is a hard place to grow food and you make edible what you can. Has someone told you to feel disgusted? Yes! Do other people disagree with the speaker? Yes - the culture that created the food think it’s swell!
In this case, you might want to hold back on acting on your disgust. There’s enough rhetorical evidence here to suggest it might be displaced.
(* I’m using kæstur hákarl as an example because the sort of strongly fermented fish products scandinavians make are a good example of food you might not want to eat that doesn’t have any other strongly anti-Scandinavian things attatched to it. I can discuss a theoretical here in a way that means I don’t have to walk into someone’s pre-existing biases. White Scandinavians don’t have to worry about it, no-one is actually using kæstur hákarl to oppress Icelanders.)
I had things like kink culture, purity culture ect. in my mind when I wrote the original post, and you might be able to see now how weaponised disgust is used against fandom and kinksters. A gut-level disgust is what drives a lot of homophobia and transphobia too, when you scratch down deep enough.
I hope that gives you some more context on why I wrote what I did and how you might apply it to the real world!
It’s a good example of how easy it is to assume “deconstruct” or “interrogate” means “throw out” or “disregard” or even “treat in the opposite way you would otherwise.
…It’s something that I think is both interpreted and intended - a lot of the time, someone will say “you should question X”, but really they mean “You should decisively be against X.” Honestly, it’s kind of rare for someone to say Question and really mean it, like what OP is doing. Refreshing!
reblog w the song lyrics in your head NOW. either stuck in yr head or what yr listening to
I demand vampires with parent issues. the parents in question have been dead for 7 centuries but their immortal offspring still bring them up every week in therapy
and no i don't mean their vampiric sire aka the rando who bit them in the woods one night and fucked off. i mean like the 14th cent stonemason who refused to let his kid apprentice with a traveling bard, because that's just not solid steady work, not like this here cathedral we've been building for generations, this is a respectable family business my lad, a blessing fallen right into your lap! and you going on and on about the hurdy-gurdy. traveling minstrel indeed!
┌─・。゚: ∘◦☾◦∘。゚. ─┐
Wraith
└─・。゚: ∘◦☾◦∘。゚. ─┘
A new Mytho, brought to you by myself.
So, what are Wraith?
Wraith are a spiritual creature, inspired by Celt/Gaul folklore, that have three distinct forms. Wraith wear the cloak and/or cape of an animal, allowing them to take on the form of that animal. Like a Selkie, but not restricted to the form of a seal.
Wraith are a mainly female dominated spirit, but a proportion are male.
Female wraith are labelled Morrigan (Moh-rri-gan) while the males are labelled Cernun (Ker-nun). The overall label is Wraith.
Now, lets get into everything!
- So what are they? but in a little more depth. Well for many reasons Wraith can be considered a form of demon, though they are simply a spirit and ultimately creatures of the energy of nature. They are as helping as they are foreboding but can turn fiercely vengeful incredibly quickly. They are prone to bribes of sweet things and jewellery in order to get them to complete favours. A Wraith will always complete a favour, but often with an evil twist that will leave someone worse off than they were beforehand.
Morrigan are by far the more vengeful of the two. - Cernun are the males, mostly, of horned/antlered species. Cernun are much more mischievous and wild than their Morrigan counterparts. Cernun are, despite being wild, known to be nurturing of those they favour and very protective of children; often being the ones to save human children from danger. They are protective as well, but in a gentle way.
Cernun in their animal form are considerably larger than the normal animal of the species they take to, as are most Wraith.
In their Wraith and human forms they have their animal skin cloak and they were a 'diadem' fashioned with the antlers of their animal. - Morrigan are the females, mostly, of more aggressive carnivorous mammals such as felines, wolves and foxes.
They are often considered to be symbols of something bad to come as they are present upon death, with rumour saying they are guiders to the soul.
These Wraith are known to present themselves to a side in a confrontation and the side they present to are considered blessed and will come out the victor.
The Morrigan will not save but are protective, defensive, but the vicious protection and defence of a mother animal. - Forms; Wraith have three distinct forms they can be seen in. Their animal form, Wraith form and their human form. All three of these have differences.
The animal form is the form that they take from the animal skin/fur they wear. The animal form is almost the same as the actual animal, with some differences. Eye colours will not be natural, the animal form has a much larger stature than the actual animal, and the animal form is able to express humanoid expression and even talk with the Wraiths voice. Not to mention the level of intelligence shown that a normal animal would not.
The Wraith form is their primary form, if not in their animal form. It is a 'humanoid' form but not their human form. The Wraith form resembles a human in body and general looks but they appear more ethereal, with unnatural eye colourings, clear skin like nothing else and sharp teeth a human certainly does not have, nor do they have a personality a normal human would. Some wraith will even have faintly pointed ears and Morrigan with hair tips of smoke or mist.
The human form is a form rarely used and only used when couplings or human interaction is absolutely required. But even in their human form they have off features like the unnatural eye colours and even sometimes, slightly sharp teeth. - Hollows are the beast once the Wraith has left. They are animal, essentially the just the skin once filled by the Wraith. The skin left to wander the earth until it returns to the ground to pass like the soul.
Wraith do not live forever and will return back to nature and leave their animal skin when they deem they need to. Its is like dying, as they come back reborn, either with the same skin or another. Every wraith will return to the earth and rest until they have enough energy and spirit to come back and be reborn, and when they leave the skin is left to live out its days.
Hollows simply look like the animal the skin is, but they have give away features that they were not born an animal. Hollow have pitch black eyes; the iris is black, the pupil and the sclera are all black. And shiny. They are also much larger in size than the animal they live with. These two things are the only dead giveaways. These hollows will live like a normal animal, though they can be seen closer to humans that a normal animal. Perhaps still with the instinct of their former selves. Though they are fear by humans immensely and do not provide protection or any hint of it. They are simply animals, haunted by instinct they don’t understand.

What I hate about writing is when I have to write so much before I finally get to the part I actually wanted to write.
And then I finally get there and the part I wanted to write now doesn't fit in anymore with the story I wrote so far.
